Here is my new gym. There are no machines or personal trainer but the views make up for it. Yesterday, in the depths of my claustrophobia misery, I climbed the stairs to the roof top praying the door is open. It needed a bit of work and wasta (the all encompassing Arabic word for connections) but I did it. Yay!

Samuel Pepys and I have many things in common: we both like wine, theatre, curiosity and the company of other people. We both lived in times of plague. I think our eyebrows look similar. Samuel kept his journal for a decade and wrote a million words. That's where our paths diverge:) But then we meet again. This is what Sam writes in 1661: "I have newly taken a solemn oath about abstaining from plays and wine…". A month later, he says "Here I drank wine upon necessity, being ill for the want of it." I'm in love. View all posts by eswini
